Out of the papers dedicated to the death of Pope John Paul II, this is one of my favorites - and it's including both the college and professional-level papers I've seen.

The reason I like it so much is that it is a poster front dedicated to the pope's passing - without using a picture of the pope himself. Instead, the Daily Egyptian staff used excellent photography from their own staffers to show a service dedicated to the pope while their reporters blended together a story using information known from the wire with local interviews. Simply beautiful.

Just a few small issues with it. Be sure to check your AP style on certain terms, such as "first." The teaser to the inside package would probably work better on the left side of the rail that you have it in or have it going across the top of that rail completely. It helps eliminate any problems with text wrapping oddly around the teaser. The grey screen is okay, but I would try looking at it with just a plain white background itself. You've got enough white space and a pretty airy headline that the extra color isn't really necessary. The dark tones in the photo will pop out more against the white. They tend to blend in with the grey background here.

Overall, fantastic job, Daily Egyptian! When 9/11 occurred, I was a senior in college. The editor of the student paper told us at one point that he wanted to make sure that the paper designed would be something that students would keep with them for the rest of their lives. This paper is one of those papers.
