A young boy peers out the window of the house involved in a standoff as FBI officials investigate the scene after receiving a tip that polygamous FLDS leader Warren Jeffs was spotted at the residence on Panchea Street in Cedar City Friday. The standoff lasted approximately three hours and two people were taken in for questioning and later released.

Posted: Jul 5 2006, 10:16 amI don't know Garrett, it's a hard read. I'm not sure what's going on with this picture. The clown in the upper right of the frame is distracting and your horizon is all cocked to one side making it feel like the photo is sliding out of the frame. What this photo really needs is a puppy dog and an ice cream cone to make it hit home with a wide range of viewers.
Seriously folks, great photo. I like the fact that you stuck it out and got something you don't normally see from a stand off or a crime scene that you are forced to shoot from far away most of the time. To often we get shots of cops walking in and out with police tape and nothing much else. We should all take a clue from Garrett's example and work a little harder, stay a little longer and do the job our readers deserve from us.
As far a composition and all that jazz, I would like it to be a bit tighter on the kid, I don't think you need the cop's head so much. The window frame and the gun is enough context (especially if it runs with a second photo). His little face with the black eye is the strongest part of the image and if it was larger and more prominent it would have more impact.
Great Job overall.
PS: why aren't more people posting images here - come on people.
